Brian Melick, aka "Udu Boy"

Multi-talented percussionist and local celebrity Brian Melick has been a family friend for years, and it was a special treat be able to create an identity for him and his musical endeavors. I worked with him to come up with visual ideas that would represent the kind of music he creates, and the energy, movement, and playfulness that he known for. It wasn't too hard - I've been lucky enough to see him in action.

The first step was to come up with the base logo in black and white, which could be used in every output form.

From there, I created the "webified" version of the logo, which is featured on the web site. The color theme used reflects the ethnically diverse style of music Brian performs, particularly the Nigerian udu drum he specializes in.
