Tymetal was a special project for Turtle's Web, because it was one of my very first clients in early 1995. The original site, due to design constraints at the time and the infancy of the medium, left a lot to be desired :) We were very fortunate to get a second opportunity to take it to the next level.

Tymetal already had an illustration of one of their products in use, which I decided could provide a basis of the design. One of my tasks was to create a set of illustrations for the navigation bar, which matched the existing drawing. But the biggest challenge, by far, was coming up with the right information architecture and navigation for their products, a variety of commercial, corrections and terrorist deterrent gate systems.

I used a variety of navigational structures to make it possible for anyone interested in researching these products to find what they were looking for, no matter how they approached the search. Clicking on Products from anywhere goes to a listing of gates by category, and a javascript "Get Gate" drop down menu was on every page.

Once on a product page, the same navigational elements remain, along with "back and forth" arrows to browse through additional products. Each product is represented by a technical drawing, product information and the option to obtain CAD drawings and technical specifications from a password protected area of the site.

A great deal of thought went into the navigation and architecture of the Tymetal site, and both I, and my clients, were very happy with the final result!
