TURTLE'S PORTFOLIO

Predixis Trade Show Booth

Ahh... the booth. What can I say about this beastie?

Well - in the end, it was a wonderous thing. Getting there was an interesting experience for a non-print designer with a highly web-optimized, slightly elderly PC. I came out of it with three particular rewards - a lot more experience with print design, a spectacular looking trade show display, and full justification for a computer upgrade.

The basic premise was this: create the imagery for an 8x8 foot full color display and get the artwork to the printer 3,000 miles away within 6 days.

I pulled my super-turtle cape out of the closet, and immediately created a slew of comps, to scale, and stuck them up on the web (that I know how to do!) for approval on my concepts. This one won:

That's when the real fun began. For those in the business, just ponder this concept: 150 megabyte multi-layer Photoshop files... 500 free meg on a 4 gig drive. Feel the pain? Ugh. But, luckily, I get really obstinate when I'm embroiled in a Me vs. The Computer battle and I pulled off all sorts of (funny in hindsight) resource saving tricks and glared at my PC while each single action took five minutes to execute. It had no choice but to surrender.

Did I mention that the wireframe head had to be created from a 3D, full color medical imaging photo which I bought?

Anyway - I met the deadline, early by a day (amazing what you do when you just don't sleep for five days) and overnighted it to California. A week later, when I got to LA in person, this was the result... quite possibly my biggest miracle, ever.
